What is Health Ministries All About?
Years
of prayer and discussion led to the formation of Director, Pastoral Care &
Senior Adult Ministry.
"I'm blessed and honored
to serve the church in this capacity." The objective of this position is
providing leadership in identifying and meeting health education and health needs of the members of
the congregation and community. "My responsibilities include home and hospital visits,
providing educational classes and forums, fairs and health screening to the congregation,
and the recruitment of volunteers to assist in this ministry. I'm excited about the
countless opportunities God has for me to serve you."
Caregiver
Support Group
First United Methodist Church Pensacola FL has a support group for caregivers that has
begun meeting in the Wright Place, the third Tuesday of each month. Sacred Heart
Senior Services is providing leadership with Joyce Brimhall and Libby Hyde as
facilitators. This is an informal meeting, and all are welcome. We meet from
1:00 - 2:00 P.M.
Prism
Weight Management
Prism, a weight loss and weight management program, offers a 6-week phase
toward learning healthy eating and lifestyle changes. Each phase includes a
devotional book, weekly meetings and video, and can be continued until your
goals are accomplished. The program encourages changes you can make in your
every day life to help you transform yourself into the person God created you to
be. This program also offers you a support group and accountability to God for
the food choices you make. This has been a highly successful program for many in
the church and community.
Opportunities
We are looking for volunteers interested in providing occasional respite
visits to families caring for family while in the hospital. This would be short
term visits (while the family member goes to dinner or takes a walk, etc.)
Please consider if this would be an area of ministry that you might be
interested in becoming involved!
Remember our medical closet--we have many items that may be used on loan.
These include wheelchairs, bedside commodes, walkers, canes, crutches, blood
sugar monitoring equipment, etc.
Seeking Support?
There may be some of us who are going though difficult circumstances or trying to cope
with life situations that have left us feeling alone, frightened, depressed or uncertain
about the future. We know God remains faithful through all of life's journey. We're
looking to support each other through these times. If you're interested in providing
support or seeking support from others please let Debra know.
Wishing for Wellness?
As Health Ministries Coordinator, I'm seeking to encourage and engage the church in
health, wellness and prevention. You'll be presented with several opportunities throughout
the year to focus on learning more about wellness. Take advantage of these opportunities.
What's in the Medical Closet?
Space has been secured and donations are being accepted for durable medical supplies.
These would include new and used items, such as hospital beds, wheelchairs, walkers, other
personal needs items. These will be cataloged and housed at the church, to be loaned to
church families in need of medical supplies.
How Do I Volunteer?
As a church body, we have many needs and concerns that may go unattended or unnoticed.
They're many opportunities to volunteer, including providing transportation for those
unable to drive and telephone reassurance. If you're interested in serving in this
ministry, please call the church today!
