First United Methodist Church Pensacola, FL recognizes that life is busy and sometimes overwhelming and lonely. As Christians, we know God is with us every day. Pensacola First Church gives each of us the opportunity to join together with our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ in unique and educational ways. As Paul taught us in 1 Corinthians 12:14-31, "the body is made up of many parts" and "if one part suffers, we all suffer"; and "if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it". We often draw strength from fellowship with other Christians. First Church is a place where we offer membership in a community of faith and a place of acceptance. We believe that as Christians we are involved in life-long learning and maturing in the Christian Faith. Therefore, we offer a number of different settings for Christian nurture. The first opportunity is a broad and reflective Sunday School. We encourage everyone to visit each class and choose the one you feel the most comfortable with.

With the often hectic and varied schedules of adults, we endeavor to offer a variety of opportunities for spiritual growth through small groups. One of our most popular programs is entitled Disciple Bible Study and new groups will be beginning in August and January. There are a number of short term as well as on going small groups that are available to meet the various needs of adults that you'll find below.

Companions in ChristCompanions in Christ, the 28-week journey, is the recommended starting place for all Companions groups. It lays the foundation on which the later resources in the series build, and establishes the trusting community in which honest sharing and growth can take place. The 28-week journey in spiritual formation moves through 5 parts: Christian journey, scripture, prayer, call, and spiritual guidance. As groups grow in these areas they develop practices to carry forward throughout their faith journey, and they encounter God in new and transforming ways.

DiscipleDisciple Bible Study is one of the finest programs offered from the United Methodist Church. We have been in the Disciple Bible Study Program since the 1980's. Disciple is designed to develop Biblically nourished Christians committed to living as disciples of Jesus Christ. Each of the four phases of Disciple study is built on small group dynamics. The process requires daily reading of designated Scripture, note taking and prayer in preparation for the weekly group meeting. You will have the opportunity to study the Bible in depth and share your thoughts and ideas with eleven other people as they also struggle to understand the Biblical message. Many have indicated that this program has been a life-changing experience for them. Disciple I is a 34 week class. Disciple II, III and IV are 32 week classes. The Disciple Second Generation Study: Jesus in the Gospels presents a 32 week in-depth reading of all four gospels.

  • Disciple I - an overview of the entire Bible
  • Disciple II - a focused look at Genesis-Exodus also Luke and Acts
  • Disciple III - an examination of The Prophets and the Letters of Paul
  • Disciple IV - Under the Tree of Life
  • Disciple Second Generation Study: Jesus in the Gospels
